Right here in Franconia is the Robert Frost Place, the poet's summer home where he wrote many of his most famous poems. For the history buff in the family, there's the Heritage Museum and the Iron Furnace-the only blast furnace still standing in New Hampshire.
A few minutes drive to the other side of the Park brings you to plenty of other activities. There is Clark's Trading Post with its famous trained black bears, the Hobo Railroad, the Lost River Gorge and Loon Mountain,
In another direction is the famous Mount Washington. You can either take the Auto Road up or take a ride on the Cog Railway to the top. When it is clear, you can see into 5 states and Canada. Santa's Village, Storyland and Six Gun City are also close by. You certainly can't do it all in a day!
Please note that many of the attractions remain open only on weekends from Labor Day through Columbus Day. Check the individual attraction websites for up to the minute closing dates.
Don't forget to take time to just relax and look around you. We have some of the most extraordinary cloud formations here, not to mention beautiful sunsets and plenty of wildlife to watch for.
And for the times you just don't feel like barbecuing or cooking, there are quite a few good restaurants, from very casual hamburgers and frappes (known as milkshakes to those outside of New England) to fine dining in our excellent area Inns. A trip to this area is never complete without a breakfast at Polly's Pancake Parlor.
