Area Info

There is plenty to do in our area.  Cannon Mountain and the Franconia Notch State Park are right up the road.  Take a ride on the Aerial Tramway to the top of Cannon Mountain for glorious views.  FNSP has Echo Lake Beach with a wonderful sandy beach for swimming and a boat ramp for kayaks and canoes.  Just south is Profile Lake for fishing and viewing the Historic site of the Old Man in the Mountain, the Flume Gorge, and the Basin.  With miles of hiking and biking trails, Franconia Notch State Park offers delights for all your senses.  Many of the trails are easy, so if you have never been a hiker, don’t be afraid to give it a try.  There are some beautiful waterfalls in the area and some are very easy to get to, even with younger children – just pack a lunch and go for a walk!  With a thousand miles of the White Mountain National Forest right next door, there’s no end to what you can see and enjoy!

Right here in Franconia is the Robert Frost Place, the poet’s summer home where he wrote many of his most famous poems.  For the history buff in the family, there’s the Heritage Museum and the Iron Furnace-the only blast furnace still standing in New Hampshire.

A few minutes drive to the south side of the Park brings more family activities.  There’s Clark’s Trading Post with its famous trained black bears, the Hobo Railroad, the Lost River Gorge, the Whales Tail and Loon Mountain,

To our east is Mount Washington – take the Auto Road up, the Cog Railway or hike to the top and don’t forget the Mount Washington Observatory.  On a clear day, you can see 5 states and Canada.  Santa’s Village and Storyland are also close by.  You certainly can’t do it all in a day!

To our north is the Town of Littleton with a wonderful walking downtown and river area. Millers Bakery and Shillings Brewery are right on the river next to a covered walking bridge, so you can park and access downtown from either side of the river. For those with a sweet tooth: Chutters Candy counter, on Main Street, boasts the longest candy counter in the world!

Don’t forget to take time to just relax and look around you.  We have some of the most extraordinary cloud formations here, not to mention beautiful sunrises and sunsets as well as plenty of wildlife to keep a watch out for on the roads as well as the woods!

This is by no means a complete list of what to see and do. For an updated list of special events taking place in our area, check the websites for our local Chambers of Commerce:  Franconia Notch Chamber of Commerce and the Littleton Area Chamber of Commerce and the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce.  There is enough to keep you and your family enjoying yourselves for as long as you want to stay.  We hope you’ll consider a visit to this beautiful area, and we look forward to meeting you!

And a trip to this area is never complete without a breakfast at the infamous and newly rebuilt Polly’s Pancake Parlor!
